Where do you get your firewood from?
All of our wood is locally sourced, either from our own tree felling activities, or from other local tree surgeons. It is then sectioned, split and stacked on site in Hertfordshire, and stored until it is ready to deliver to you.
Every firewood delivery is accompanied by a note informing you of where the wood originally came from, using the source postcode district, e.g. AL5
None of our wood is imported.
Which tree species are included in your firewood?
We only supply hardwood species in our firewood.
Typically, this will a mixture of the most popular and best to burn firewood types, including ash, beech, oak, and sycamore.
Sometimes, if we have stock on site, we will include other hardwoods sush as birch, hawthorn, yew, apple or cherry, which are fantastic to burn, but not as common.
For closed fires (log burners) we may include a small amount (less than 5%) of laurel – again, depedent upon availability to enhance your fire’s aesthetic.
Again, your delivery note will specify which hardwoods are being supplied, and in which proportions.

Is your wood kiln dried?
Our wood is seasoned naturally, without the introduction of artificial heat sources.
Although slower – seasoning some hardwoods, such as elm, can take up to 2 years – natural seasoning allows for a gradual evaporation of moisture, and a more even and longer burning firewood.
Kiln drying firewood still results in good firewood, but the lower moisture content measurements sometimes quoted may not be such an advantage.
A very low firewood moisture content (below 15%) will not necessarily result in cleaner burning. But the higher energy output, particularly with fast burning woods such as birch and ash, may result in a fire that is too hot and does not last. Therefore you’ll use more firewood at a higher cost.
Typically, in the UK, wood seasoned naturally outdoors will find equilibrium with the environment and the wood moisture content will settle somewhere between 15% to 17%. So, your kiln dries firewood, stacked outdoors in a covered log store, will actually gain moisture within a month or two.
Choosing naturally seasoned over kiln dried firewood also promotes sustainability, as firewood drying kilns clearly need an energy source to produce heat. So they’re either burning fossil fuels such as gas, or burning wood to dry wood!!
